WOODCUT Depression Era ~ WOMAN ARTIST ~ 1930s Washington DC AMERICAN REGIONALIST

Description: An interesting hand signed woodcut from American artist Isabella Brockway Walker (1901-1987). This c.1940 vintage print is a Regionalist view of Old Harper's Ferry, West Virginia and is titled "Ghost Town" in the artist's hand. The image measures 13 × 9 inches, sheet size is approx. 16 x 12 inches. It is printed in a black ink on cream colored Japan paper and is hand signed by the artist as well as titled in pencil. It is also numbered for a small edition of fifty impressions. It has a couple of marginal dogeared corners, tape residue at edges and overall mild age toning, otherwise it is in excellent condition full margins and will frame up beautifully. Isabella Brockway Walker (1901-1987) was an American painter and printmaker known primarily for her woodcuts and linocuts. She studied at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and, in 1934, she settled in Washington DC and sometimes summered at the Provincetown art colony in Massachusetts. Walker was a member of the Arts Club of Washington and the Society of Washington Printmakers, she exhibited at the Smithsonian Institute, Georgetown University, University of Virginia, Baltimore Art Museum and the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
