Description: VINTAGE Samsonite Sonora ll Three-Piece Luggage Set Includes a Samsonite Silhouette ll Piece Burgundy Faux Leather 50s - 70s Beautiful * Please read. ** I have many, many pictures of this set as there’s so much to show! Yet, I can only post 24 photos. Please feel free to ask if you’d like to see additional photos. Nonetheless, this set is in near mint condition and we believe there’s a good reason for that… Many, many years ago, my grandfather worked for Samsonite in Denver for a little over two decades. My grandparents passed several years ago, but we (the last 3 family members) kept all their belongings including their home. Yet, my sister & I are just finally beginning to sort through everything; although, my mother lives in their old home. This beautiful, burgundy, faux leather set of Samsonite luggage was found in plastic, in a sealed box. We know my grandfather brought it home from work. It’s possible that when it arrived from Mexico very small imperfections (listed below) were noticed and he was gifted the set, which also happens to slightly be ‘mismatched’ as the medium sized piece is not labeled Samsonite Sonoma ll; rather, it is a Samsonite Silhouette ll. Pic #7 States: “Assembled in Mexico for Samsonite Corporation Denver.” Our family has and still does reside right outside of Denver, CO. We have no evidence that it’s ever been used, however for the sake of the listing it is listed as “preowned” as opposed to “new” as we can’t promise it never was used. We simply haven’t noticed any real signs of use (no ID tags, straps on carry-on bags aren’t pulled out/adjusted, no significant scratches from travel etc). Yet, we are certain this was a ‘set’ my grandfather brought home from work. IMPERFECTIONS: •Small scuff-marks/scratches (as shown in pic #10 & #17). •Small threads that could easily be trimmed (as shown in pic #13) •A slightly bent inner plastic piece attached to the bottom of the carry on (shown in pic #23). -There’s several zipped compartments on the two carry on pieces. -The adjustable straps on the two carry on cases have never been adjusted from the way they were produced & packaged. -The lining inside each piece is not torn or stained nor does it show signs of discoloration. It’s beautiful! -The outer bottoms of each piece have studs to keep the faux leather from directly touching the ground if set down. -The plastic protective inner corners in the largest piece aren’t cracked or busted. -There is a matching burgundy, attached ID tag on the largest piece. -The smaller piece has a leather strap attached place should one want to add an ID tag to it, but it does not have the ID tag. -All zippers work perfectly. -The casing was listed as “hybrid.” However, the luggage casing is soft, however due to plastic attached inserts like the one shown in pic #23 I listed it has “hybrid.” -These pieces could be considered as a “nesting” set. They all fit inside the large piece & were found that way when we opened the sealed box. -The medium sized bag/briefcase is a Samsonite Silhouette ll. -The Silhouette collection launched in 1958. -The Sonoma ll collection was launched in the 70s. MEASUREMENTS: Samsonite Sonoma ll: Large Suitcase - 24” H, 16.5” Width, the side measures 8” from side to side (shown in pic #9) Samsonite Silhouette ll: Medium Carry On/Briefcase - 15” H, 13” W, the side measures 7” from side to side Samsonite Sonoma ll: Smaller Carry On - 13” H, 13” W, the side measures 5” from side to side There’s a lot to say and show when it comes to this beautiful vintage set of Samsonite luggage. I hope I included everything, or at least as much as I could. If you have additional questions please contact me before purchasing as the sale is final due to age, rarity, and condition. FUN TID-BIT FROM A 2001 DENVER NEWS ARTICLE: “When the Samsonite plant opened 70 percent of the company's sales were hard plastic suitcases. They now account for just 8 percent of the company's U.S. sales. “Samsonite has deep roots in Denver," said Tom Sandler, Samsonite's president for North and South America. The company was founded in 1910 when Denverite Jesse Shwayder opened the Shwayder Trunk Manufacturing Co. The company later changed its name to Samsonite, taking the brand name already used on its products. During its heyday in the 1960s and '70s, the Samsonite plant employed as many as 4,000 workers.” Disclaimer: Item is pre-owned unless otherwise noted. It is stored in a clean, smoke-free environment. I do my best to accurately describe all items. However, when buying pre-owned items it should be taken into consideration that they are vulnerable to various degrees of discoloration, loose threads, marks, scuffs, and other signs of wear. **If you have any questions feel free to message me before purchasing
