The three lamps themselves will be detached from the top tentacles so they can be positioned in the center of the box. This has to be done in order to keep shipping costs to a reasonable level. With that said, you will have to do some limited assembly which entails lining up the holes, adding the washer, and screwing in the two screws. All three of the lamps work as designed. The bulbs are for demonstration purposes only and not included.
