Description: Vintage UNION CITY, TN Ephemera-Newspaper Clippings-Programs-Wedding Invitation-Photo Recently purchased at a local Memphis, TN estate sale. From the estate of Alice Dunlap. The lot of 12 items contains 3 newspaper clippings referring to Alice Dunlap from the early 1940s and 4 piano recital programs of Miss Dunlap also from the 1940s. The remaining 5 items are in reference to Alice Dunlap's mother, Elizabeth Harpole Dunlap -- starting with her photograph ca.1940. There is 1 newspaper clipping from the late 1930s and an invitation to her wedding from 1939. There is also a program from the 1934 "Princess of Union City" contest in which Miss Harpole participated. The Princess of Union City contest was just one of the many tri-state contests involved in the annual Memphis Cotton Carnival Festival that was begun in Memphis only 3 years prior in 1931. The contests were held to pick local mid-south representatives to come to Memphis to compete for any number of titles -- whether it be Queen of the Cotton Carnival or part of the Royal Court, etc. Excellent pre-owned condition.
