The graphics are very crisp and display well. There is a chip on the lower back 1" x 3/8", chip bottom edge front 3/8" x 1/2", and 2 small inner rim chips as shown in the photos. The crock has its original handles with one missing part of the wood. The company cited low-cost competitors as a reason for ceasing manufacturing and sales.Red Wing crocks production was started in Red Wing Minnesota in 1861 by Paul Rand. While the company has operated under several names, Red Wing Stoneware and Pottery was originally established in 1877. The name was changed again in 1906 to Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. at which time the red wing trademark was adopted. The company continued with this name until 1936 when the name was changed for the last time to Red Wing Potteries.These vintage glazed, hand-thrown, kiln-fired crocks were used prior to the introduction of refrigeration.
