Description: This listing is for a still factory sealed vintage computer digital data cassette tape manufactured by Canberra Industries for their Computer Peripherals Division. The tape is housed in a fairly standard plastic jewel case and then sealed in a clear plastic poly bag. The label on the cassette states that it has 300 ft of tape. I was not able to find a date that this tape would have been manufactured despite my extensive research to do so. But from my best educated guess it would probably date from the mid to late 1970s or early 1980s. But that could certainly vary as this company's data cassette machines were actually released as early as 1971. These tapes were used to store digital data for computer programs and were not meant to record and play music like a standard cassette tape would. Data on these cassettes was stored as analog audio signals. The computer would convert digital information into audio tones, often sounding like a screeching noise to the human ear. To load data, the process was reversed. The computer would read the audio tones from the cassette, interpreting them as binary data. This binary code would load programs, games, or other content. As mentioned the tape is still factory sealed. So the cassette tape itself is presumed to be in mint, unplayed/unused condition, or at least as close to mint as you'll get. Though there are never any guarantees when it comes to vintage sealed media. The sealed tape's case appears to be in very good condition with minimal signs of any visible wear through the plastic bag.
