Description: Vintage Avi Kiriaty Collection Kahala Hawaii Tribal Warrior Hawaiian Aloha Camp Shirt XL This is a clean lightly worn vintage pre owned 100% rayon retired Kahala shirt from the Avi Kiriarty collection. The shirt does not have the Avi Collection label, but the print is identical to Avi Collection Kahala shirts that feature this print in various color stories. It may be that this is one of the early Avi shirts made for Kahala before there was a specific Avi Collection label, but the artwork is definitely his. The shirt features coconut buttons and a side vent hem. Legendary artist Avi Kiriaty, born in Israel in 1957, grew up in a world of art. His journey through life started in the Israeli Army, and from there to a Greek Island, an after that, a winter cottage in New Hampshire. Following the birth of his daughter, Avi moved to Hawaii. His first year was spent on Kauai, where he experimented for a time with oil painting. From there he moved to the hamakua side of the Big Island, to begin to live “kama‘aina” with the land, farming and fishing on an old Hawaiian homestead. Avi then moved to the Puna Rainforest and began to live the life of an “artist”.Avi has worked in many media...oil painting, linoleum block printing, lava and bronze sculpture, pencil and ink drawing, watercolors, ceramic platters, and serigraphs. His works are a feast of lush colors and bold lines, often depicting the Polynesian lifestyle of every day events.Avi began working with Kahala, one of the oldest aloha shirt companies in the early 1990's.
