Description: VERY RARE ORIGINAL WW2 GERMAN MILITARY MAP of an area of "DORSET" which was produced in JUNE 1940 ahead of the Battle of Britain for the planned ground invasion that was intended to follow. Security classification.... "Nur für den Dienstgebrauch" (equivalent to a "RESTRICTED" British military map). Also headed "Vorsicht! nicht brechen!" which translates to..."Caution! Do Not Destroy!" However, it is the high scale that makes this map so unusual to find. Most German invasion maps of Britain were scaled at 1:100,000, but this map is scaled to 1:25,000 and actually covers the area featured in 16 times the detail. Therefore, each of the red grid squares only represents a square kilometre. I've never seen any at this scale before and have just picked up a small collection of only seven sheets. They came to me with a number of Luftwaffe bombing target maps mostly covering British military, industrial and municipal establishments. Measures approximately 52cm x 38cm, and will be shipped as per its existing fold lines. In good condition for its age, with filing holes in the margin.
