Description: This bag is a superb example of the M-1936 Musette bag, as it would have been (and was, in this case) used during WWII. The most interesting aspect of the bag is the attached shipping labels. The smaller one is a 'Army Air Forces Air Transport Command Baggage Identification Tag' on which the name and rank of the owner is written. Stamped on that same tag are also the origin and destination, which is how we know the bag traveled from Colombo, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) to Calcutta, British Indian Empire (now India). The other tag is a Quartermaster Supply Officer tag, which some people online allege was used for free return shipping for GI's upon discharge or transfer. The bag itself was made by C. W. Breneman in 1943, and features an added U.S. strap/sling that isn't original to the musette, but is from the same era. The tags feature the name of the soldier, and the bag has been monogrammed on the front with 'E.T.' The identity of the original owner, E. Tilden, remains unknown, although with the proper resources and databases, no doubt some information can be discovered. There were only a limited number of American soldiers who would have been in Ceylon and Calcutta during WWII. A Note on the original contents of the bag: when this bag was originally discovered in the state it is now, it included a number of small forgotten objects, all of which can be seen in the photos attached to the listing.
