A program for the Brooklyn Academy of Music's production of The Royal Family. English actress ROSEMARY HARRIS (b. 1927) made her West End debut in The Seven Year Itch in 1952, her Broadway debut Troilus and Cressida (1956). In between she appeared in her first film, Beau Brummel (1954) Harris, who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Old Vic, won a Tony as Eleanor in The Lion in Winter (1966) and no less than four Drama Desk Awards between 1972 and 1985. She won an Emmy for Notorious Woman on Masterpiece Theatre, and earned an Oscar nomination for Tom and Viv (1994). She has lived for 40 years in North Carolina with her husband, writer John Ehle. Their daughter is noted stage and screen actress Jennifer Ehle. EVA LA GALLIENNE (1899-1991, born in London, England) was an American actress as well as a stage director, producer and writer with 77 Broadway productions and 15 TV shows and movies to her credit. She was nominated for the 1980 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Ellen Burstyn's Grandma Pearl in Resurrection (1980) and for the 1981 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for To Grandmother's House We Go (1981). SAM LEVENE (1905-1980), who was nominated for a 1961 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play (The Devil's Advocate), debuted on the Great White Way in Wall Street in 1927. His Broadway credits include Dinner at Eight (1932), Three Men on a Horse (1935-1937; revival 1969-1970), Light Up the Sky (1948-1949), Guys and Dolls (1950-1953), The Sunshine Boys (1972-1973) and Horowitz and Mrs. Washington (1980, his last stage appearance before his death from a heart attack). In 1936, Levene made his screen debut, reprising his role as superstitious gambler Patsy in the film version of Three Men on a Horse. That same year, he made the first of two appearances as Lieutenant Abrams in Thin Man films (After the Thin Man, 1936; Shadow of the Thin Man, 1941). Levene appeared in over 30 feature films, his last being ...After the Fall in 1979, as well as in made-for-TV movies, TV anthologies (including The United States Steel Hour and Studio One) and the TV series, The Untouchables (1960). GEORGE GRIZZARD (1928-2007), who began his career as a stage actor, won rave reviews for his performances on Broadway in The Desperate Hours (1955, his Broadway debut), The Disenchanted (1958, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award), Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1962) and A Delicate Balance (1966, for which he won a Tony Award). In 1962, two years after making his film debut in On the Terrace, Grizzard was cast in Advise and Consent, the first of his many roles as a politician. His film credits also include Wonder Boys (2000), several TV movies and miniseries and guest roles (from 1955) on a number of series, most recently Law & Order (recurring role as Arthur Gold) and Touched By An Angel. Also signed by ELLIS RABB (1930-1998), MARY LAYNE (b. 1950), ELEANOR PHELPS (1907-2001), FORREST BUCKMAN, MARY LOUISE WILSON (b. 1932) and ROSETTA LE NOIRE (1911-2002).
