FOLDED booklet, measuring approx. 10.75in TALL x 8.25in WIDE. Staples holding firm. NO hard creases or soft tears. Except for the MILD toning to the paper, I would grade this as VERY GOOD. NO markings. NO tearing. Preserved in an acid-free archival bag. IMO, gift or collection quality. Issue Contributors: This issue includes many different pieces of satire, reporting and overall information for the time. Commentary on the Warren Report, a segment by Theodore Sturgeon, a full-page of comics by Dick Guindon titled The Portable Goldwater, along with other cartoons and writings. The Realist was an underground paper founded by Paul Krassner, and first published in 1958. The Realist was an early satirical publisher of conspiracy theories, and a key contributor to the American underground and countercultural press. It saw print for over 42 years, coming to an end in 2001. Steeped in satire, and wrapped up in the First Amendment right to free speech, this underground countercultural paper was quite a tool in speaking Truth to Power and breaking through the boundaries in which we enclosed ourselves. This paper was also an avenue for underground art of the time. Here were published many of his legendary Impolite Interviews of people such as Tim Leary, Jerry Garcia, Alan Watts and Norman Mailer, to name but a few. Each issue contained not only articles/satire by Krassner himself, but several other contributors to the Cause put in their 2 cents. In true underground fashion, articles and topics included Civil Rights, the War, politics, corruption, The Constitution and plenty of his satirical take on the state of affairs at the time. Krassner was not only the founder of this paper, he was also friend to the likes of Lenny Bruce and Abbie Hoffman, as well as being a founding member of the Yippies in the Sixties. An important free speech advocate and anti-war/establishment radical, Krassner broke many social taboos with this paper, fighting in the trenches for expression of the masses, standing in opposition to the military industrial complex and power structure that works to squelch the Voice of the public at large. Although these papers are not for the easily offended, IMO they are key examples of a vibrant passion for Freedom of the Press. I will happily answer any further questions. Making offers: I certainly can appreciate wanting a better deal, and I've made offers myself on my own purchases. To be up front, if and when you make an offer, I will automatically reject crazy low "give it away" offers. Best not to waste our time. With a more reasonable offer, I will review current pricing for other comparable items out there and either accept, counter or decline submitted offer. If in that review, I find my pricing is already LOW and outdated, I may then increase the price to bring more in line with other offerings. I spend a lot of time sourcing the best offerings, preparing the listings with images and clear descriptions, and price fairly in MOST cases. I remain grateful to all who consider my offerings, and I look forward to serving your needs respectfully and with success.
