Description: The Only New Orleans Mint "Micro O" Morgan Silver Dollars w Wood Display Case In the 1800's, mintmarks for coins struck at branch mints such as New Orleans were added to coin dies at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia where the dies were made, before being shipped to the respective branches. As a result, the location and sometimes the size of the mint marks could vary slightly from one die to the next. In 1880 and again in1899, an extremely small "O" mint mark was used on a few Morgan silver dollar dies intended for use at the U.S. Mint in New Orleans. The mintmark is noticeably smaller than usual, giving it the name "Micro O." This set includes an1880 Micro "O" Minted Silver Morgan Dollar, an 1889 Standard "O" Mint Silver Morgan Dollar, and an 1899 Micro "O" Minted Silver Morgan Dollar. All coins are encapsulated in plastic, within a felt lined specialty wood display case. (key not included) Plate on case cover is covered in protective plastic. Markings in the photo are not on the plate. More photos available upon request. Please see my other similar listings.
