Description: "The Essex Epic Third Far East Cruise 1953-1954" is a 298 page, 9"x12" hardcover published by the US Navy to document aircraft carrier USS Essex's cruise of the Pacific from December 1953 to the end of April, 1954 - the book was published in Japan while the cruise was still underway. The ship also visited Hawaii, the Philippines and Hong Kong. There are many photos taken at each stop, a few in color. There are also photos of the ship, aircraft and crew, and a roster list at the back. The book is in good condition, with no dust jacket (as issued). The cover shows rubbing, light soiling, a couple marks at front bottom, some wear at the edge and corners, various small scuffs and scratches, reddish spotting at back center. The previous owner wrote his name, rank and service number in the spaces provided. The interior is otherwise unmarked. Some pages have small reading creases, and ink on a couple pages has rubbed off onto the page opposite. The binding feels slightly loose.
