Description: Offered is an original World War One era United States Military issue bayonet manufactured for use with the Model 1903 Springfield service rifle. This bayonet is a Model 1905 (M1905). It is marked S A and 1906 on the ricasso for manufacture by Springfield Armory in 1906. On the obverse ricasso, it is US marked and serialized. This bayonet retains almost all of its World War One phosphate finish, showing only mild runner wear. The 16” blade retains its factory edge and tip, having never been sharpened after leaving the arsenal. The lock button functions as it should. The original grips retain a very nice grain and are free from cracks, chips, or repairs. This bayonet is offered with its original leather covered scabbard, which is a stunner in its own right. It is marked R.I.A. for manufacture by Rock Island Arsenal and is dated 1907. Those stamps remain very crisp, as do the inspector’s initials below them. The scabbard shows only very mild wear from age and has no damage or repairs. Even the tip remains better than virtually any you will encounter. Overall, a great, rare rig that would not be easy to upgrade and would make an impressive addition to any collection.
