The Sculpture is truly mesmerizing as the gorgeous lavender transparent color changes in the light and the soft gold color running on the tips of her hair also changes in the light. It has a translucent texture to the finish allowing the natural light to dance through it almost looks like glass. c.1950’s. The sculpture is marked/tagged with Dorothy Thorpe sticker. I believe this is a one-of-a-kind piece. It was acquired at an estate sale in San Clemente not far from Carlsbad, CA where Dorothy Thorpe lived until her death in 1989. Dorothy Thorpe was a modernist artist and designer known for her iconic glassware and her Lucite/resin/acrylic pieces during the Mid-Century era. Thorpe's resin rendition of the landmark marble statue of the Venus Itálica in Florence, by Antonio Canova ,1804-1812. The color of this piece is a delicate lavender that is especially beautiful in the light. Measures about 16 inches tall 4 1/2 in wide x 4 1/2" Depth and weighs almost 3 pounds. These sculpture pieces/ works elevated Thorpe to artist, and this piece is simply beautiful, and it is in very good vintage condition, No chips, cracks, and or repairs. It is a high quality reproduction of a sculpture of Venus Itálica, made of resin, Lucite, and or acrylic.
