Description: This listing is for a spooky RARE Baby / Childs Grave Marker or a cast iron grave Topper, made of solid Antique Cast Iron. A great Memento Mori Victorian piece, I believe it is a stand alone marker for a small grave on family land, or perhaps part of a larger cast iron coffin / grave as were popular in the late Victorian era. It depicts a baby or small child peacefully reclining on cushions or pillows. It has a nice figural shape, and a nice wide base. It is quite heavy for its size, weighing around 6 pounds 12 oz. It is not marked by a maker or the family, leading me to think this is the top of a highly ornamental cast iron grave for a child, where a “lid” would be visible above ground, lavishly designed with much skill. It is not dated, however I believe it to be around the 1880s in origin. This was perhaps saved when the rest of the grave site was scrapped or moved. This one is an antique original, not some reproduction or cheap re-cast. A fantastic and unusual item for collectors of victorian / mourning items and much more! Great for gifting, display / decor, use as intended, and much more! It is in very good antique condition, with no cracks, chips, or other major damage. It has a pleasant patina, and much original paint. Could be detailed or even polished at buyers discretion. Thank you for your consideration, reasonable offers always considered. Comes as shown, please see photos for details and measurements. Comes packed with care, insured in shipment.
