The Dambusters Squadron was formed in March 1943 during World War II. The squadron was specially created to carry out a daring bombing raid on the dams of the Ruhr Valley in Germany, using a new bouncing bomb designed by British engineer Barnes Wallis. The squadrons success in this mission earned them widespread recognition and praise. The Dambusters Squadron comprised pilots, navigators, and other crew members, who were handpicked for their skill and bravery. The squadron was led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his leadership during the mission. In total, 133 men participated in the raid, with 53 of them being killed in action. The bravery and skill of these men have been celebrated in numerous books, films, and other media over the years, cementing their place in history as some of the greatest heroes of World War II. Housed in its own presentation card and blister pack, your coin will be ready to display or add to your collection.
