This is a very rare, original Bavarian Observer Badge from the German air force in World War I. Solid 900 silver stamp/ fine award ! The front is beautifully enameled. It is glass enamel in very good condition. Kaiser Wilhelm II established this award on January 27, 1914. The Air Observer Badge was awarded to officers who had to meet the following requirements, with the issuance of a certificate of ownership: They had to have flown at least 1000 km on cross-country flights in aircraft and successfully completed reconnaissance missions. They also had to have successfully completed a technical assistance test on aircraft and passed a repeat test. The badge was worn on the left side of the chest. The oval, silver badge is framed on the right side by an oak leaf branch and on the left side by a laurel branch. The two branches are tied together with a ribbon bow at the bottom. The badge is topped by the imperial crown. In the middle is the badge of the Army High Command. This is a square.
