It was developed for the launching of the Airwave Googles, which was an incredible technology at the time of the release. The concept was taken from the 'this is your brain on drugs' commercial from the 1980s. This is why the skull is translucent, allowing you to see the brain. The idea was, this is your brain. This is your brain on Airwave!" The statue was created in two sizes. The first one was designed for the window display, and it is massive, with a 12' span with moving wings and a Goggle video display. The second was a takedown of the first, but " a "small" table top version that lights up and glitches out intentionally, like neurons firing off. It was meant to wear the actual googles, and the wrist control would go on the "u" shape holder on the front. " . Production ranges around 20 units. Both versions are still at FHR. However, only the smaller version is exposed for viewing, and it is located at the entrance on the front desk. R.J. Abbot worked for Oakley between 2013 and 2016. This particular unit you are viewing I directly purchased from an Oakley employee who was gifted this Airwave Sculpture as a parting gift when leaving Oakley. It is one of the few 'complete' and 'undamaged' examples left of the Airwave Sculpture. Many of these have had damage to their wings, or many collectors have pulled out the lights that came with them and replaced them with different lights, or the 'skull' part has come disconnected becuase of mis-handling. This one is all original and complete and perfect. THIS ONE IS PERFECT. The shipping cost is high because it will need to be crated and freighted. It will be done very carefully with a wooden crate, and the Scultpure will be secured inside the wooden crate to the bottom, and then filled with packing peanuts to make sure it cannot be damaged nor shift during transit. I could not show how it 'glows' and 'glitches' on eBay, but it works flawlessly still and comes with two rechargeable batteries with chargers (all original) that last numerous days before needing a recharge.
