Back: FEDERAL BUILDING-POST OFFICE-UNITED STATES COURT AND CUSTOM HOUSE – On this historic site the English in 1776 erected a fort as a defense against Americans. The British evacuated this fort on July 11, 1796, the closing act of the War of Independence, and the United States flag was raised the first time over this western territory. – C.T. ART-COLORTONE.
