Description: New-Old-Stock Selle Italia Batavus Saddle w/White Lycra Cover (Second Quality) Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock Selle Italia Batavus saddle in a white lycra cover with yellowish/orange silk screen labeling. It's an Italian-made saddle that appears to be well made and includes a generous amount of high density foam padding (at least relative to other vintage racing style saddles we stock). We say well made from a design and materials standpoint, except we are not huge fans of the thin lycra/nylon blended cover (see below for more details/discussion). Some additional specs/details include the following... Dimensions (Length x Width): 270 mm x 140 mm (with the latter measured from the widest point...near the back of the saddle) Weight: 392 grams (per our digital postal scale) Rail material: chromoly steel Rail width: 45 mm (see discussion that follows regarding rail width) Production date: Not available, but a best guess is an early 90's vintage These saddles are very similar to the white synthetic leather Selle Italia Batavus model we sell (when we can find them), with the exception of the cover. In other words, the desirable shell design, rails, high density foam padding, etc., are identical to the much higher priced synthetic leather model, but the cover is different and (in our opinion) probably not as durable. We do not mean to be overly critical of these lycra/nylon blended covers, but they are somewhat thin and semi-transparent...so we do not believe they will wear as well as heavier cover materials. We realize there are some nice saddle covers available that may slip over this saddle and alleviate any cover wear problems down the road, but we still wanted to be clear regarding our thoughts on these lycra/nylon blended covers. One final comment...silk screen labeling on lycra/nylon covers (such as this one) is generally not very durable. As a result, the "Batavus" labeling on these covers will flake/peel off over the near term (and has already started in some cases). We also sell a Selle San Marco Batavus model, but this offering has a different design relative to that model. This offering has a more competitive/racing look to it, while still having ample high density foam padding. We also like the simple and clean style of this saddle...even noting the clean underside...where molded plastic conceals any glue/staple marks resulting from securing the white cover to the saddle's hard plastic shell. It is not a very light saddle (as noted above), but it's chromoly steel rails should hold up fairly well under most conditions. So again, we really like the racing design of these saddles and they have become quite rare, and as long as you understand the potential shortcomings of the lycra/nylon blended cover, then one of these saddles may be worthy of consideration. In terms of cosmetic condition, there are a couple of points we should note. The white lycra/nylon blended covers have some marks on them. These blemishes usually consist of dried glue and/or dirt/dust marks (which we realize are probably not all that surprising for any vintage saddle with a white cover). They still show fairly well overall, but please do not expect a perfectly clean cover...and to this end...the pictures probably show the saddle cover to be cleaner relative to actual cosmetic condition (and please keep this in mind). Additionally, these saddles must have been packed on top of one another for a period of time, because some have shallow dents in the high density foam padding...and coupled with the thin lycra/nylon blended cover...these dents are fairly noticeable. I am guessing the dents may smooth-out (for lack of a better term) over time, but we still wanted to bring this to light for those considering one of these saddles. Listing Update...we are nearing the end of our stocks in these saddles with the lycra/nylon blended covers, so we decided to start updating the pictures to reflect the next one pulled from inventory for sale. To this end, I can confirm all of the notes (above) concerning cosmetic condition apply to this particular saddle...so the dried glue/dirt/dust marks and the dents are all visible on this particular saddle. The overall condition is still fairly nice, but it does have it's cosmetic/cover blemishes. For what it is worth, I can also confirm the rails are clean...so I am confident this saddle has never been mounted on a seatpost. Finally, I am offering a 10% discount on this particular saddle relative to our other stocks, because there is one area of the cover that appears to be roughed up a bit. This is best viewed in the third picture above and while I do not see a cut in the cover, it just appears scuffed in this area and may not hold up as well relative to the rest of the cover. A note about rail width... We have always assumed saddle rail widths were relatively standard...44 mm for a standard road/mtb saddle and 30 mm for a track saddle (center-to-center measurements). However, we are beginning to understand there is some variability concerning saddle rail widths that we would have expected to measure 44 mm. The variations are not significant...maybe +/- 3 mm from the 44 mm expected width...and we realize there is some flex to saddle rails...but the variations may still make installation a chore at times. For this reason, we are now providing a center-to-center rail width measurement on our saddles. Note to international customers regarding shipping... We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case. Note to international customers regarding customs... We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
