Description: Sendak, Maurice (Illustrator) & Krauss, Ruth - A Hole is to Dig - Harper & Brothers: New York, 1952 - First Edition / First Printing / First State - No statement of edition or mention of later printings present on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. First state with “Grr-r-r” NOT on page 23 and correct “30-70” code on the jacket flap. The book has some rubbing to the edges but is surprisingly bright and clean with straight boards, square firm binding, and no markings internally. The price clipped dust jacket is rubbed to the tips and spine ends, sunned to the spine, has shallow chips to the spine ends, and has some light shelf wear. All together a very attractive example of this early Sendak illustrated book. Winner of the first New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year Award in 1952. All books are offered with a full 30 day postage paid return policy. All books which are in dust jackets will be mailed with a clear archival dust jacket protector fitted. Shipping costs can be combined if multiple purchases are made. Items will be packaged and shipped within one business day unless otherwise noted.
