Life-Size Hydrocal Replicas of Original Joseph & Hyrum Smith Death Masks LDS

Description: Listing includes a life-size set of 2 death masks - replicated from a copy from the original death masks of the Latter-Day Saint prophet, Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum Smith, after their martyrdom in the mid 1800s. The artist has replicated these masks using hydrocal white gypsum cement (designed for solid and hollow casting) for sturdiness rather than plaster of Paris, which breaks easily. They are solid with a felt backing, suitable for display on a flat surface. They each weigh over 3 pounds, so they are sturdy. They are boxed to sell (I took one set out to take pictures), suitable for a gift or transport. I will double box them when shipping to be sure they arrive unharmed. Info: These replicas have been made by an experienced Utah artist, using some molds that were taken off the original death masks. Casting is superb. The original death masks were made after the bodies of Joseph and Hyrum were cleaned and examined, preserving their facial features and structures. Hyrum's mask has a small disfigurement by the side of his nose. This is where the fatal bullet entered his head. It is assumed that it was stuffed with cotton or something similar while the masks were made. Original masks were made by the father of David H. Cannon who remember as a boy of six helping his father with this chore.
