Description: The Birth, Life and Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights and in the End Le Morte D'Arthur (aka The Death of King Arthur) by Sir Thomas Malory Limited Facsimile Hardcover Edition in Gold Foil Dust Jacket and Slipcase. Illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley in about 20 full-page illustrations and numerous in-text ornaments, mimicking older book styles of the late Middle Ages. Second Printing, NY: Dorset Press, 1992. (The first printing of this edition was 1990.) This is a facsimile of the original edition published by J.M. Dent in 1893. (Copies of the first appearance of this edition run about $5000+ in fine condition, and there were copies on hand-made paper which can fetch $15,000+. The true first edition was printed by William Caxton in 1485, of which only one survives residing in the British Library.) Fine in Fine Dust Jacket in Near Fine Slipcase, looks near new. A tiny hint of creasing to the upper corner of a few pages, otherwise nearly perfect in a slipcase which has a few small white stains at the top. NOTE: The original first edition of Le Morte D'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory was printed in late 15th-century English by William Caxton, the first printer of books in English, although the title is in French. Only one copy of the true first edition survives. Wynkyn de Worde, Caxton's successor printed a few more editions, and even these rarely come on the market. One copy from the mid-16th century came up for sale at a book fair for $100,000 and sold almost instantly. In the late 19th century, some artists and book publishers joined forces for the arts and crafts movement. The most famous book to come out of this is the Kelmscott Chaucer, but this edition, published by J.M. Dent may be second only to the Kelmscott Chaucer. NOTE: The pictures in this listing show the actual copy for sale. NOTE on shipping: I no longer offer media mail shipping on books costing $100+ because of long delays. Priority mail in a medium box is only a few dollars more and ensures you'll receive your book much faster! NOTE on FEEDBACK: If you have problem with an order for any reason, please contact me before leaving feedback! 99% of the time we can resolve the problem. It is much more difficult to change feedback once left.A Word on First Editions: 95% of my offerings are trade editions, and 90% of those are first printings. In general I do NOT sell bookclub editions or cheap reprints like Modern Library except in rare instances which would be explicitly stated as such. In general, I also DO NOT sell x-library copies. If the book is both a first edition AND a first printing, it will be marked as “first edition” in the Item Specifics under “Special Attributes”, otherwise assume a later printing or a later edition. NOTE on USPS Shipping: The US Post has graciously increased their rates! I ship on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays sometimes on Friday. I do not ship on Mondays and Saturdays.Shipping and confirmation in the U.S. only via media mail (1-3 weeks) is included in the price. Make sure your current address is on Ebay and/or Paypal! All books are bubble-wrapped, and those costing over $50 will be placed in a box. My shipping costs are slightly more than others because I use dust jacket covers, bubble-wrap, and boxes. The extra $1 or so is worth it to protect your book!FYI, media mail is a discount shipping rate for books and CD's. It is not the same as first class mail, and you can't expect items to arrive in the same time frame. They typically take 1 1/2 to 3 weeks. Items shipped media mail take longer than a letter which is first class.PLEASE contact me if you would like a reduction in shipping costs for multiple purchases sent to a single address. (not always possible with international shipping.)ATTENTION Canadian and International customers: $15 international priority mail with required tracking. (I now require international tracking on all items over $50) There may be a delay, sometimes an additional 1 to 8 weeks, if your package is inspected by your country's custom's inspectors. I cannot be responsible (and I have no control over) delays due to customs inspections. It is best to find out your country's policies in this regard.Any further questions, please email me. I try my very best to accurately describe condition. Disputes in condition of items must be resolved within 15 days of shipment of item. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
