James Williamson Bell: 1938-2010, A member of the Society of Wildlife Artists, he produced studies of native and exotic birds. Bell travelled in China and this influenced his painting as shown in his shipyards and lantern-lined Shanxi streets and shrieking cockerels of the Far East. This print is bright, and unfaded, with excellent rich ink colouring, printed on a medium wove paper sheet measuring 34 cms. x 49 cms. (13 x 19 ins.) with ‘Arches’ watermark. Pencil signed and titled by the artist below the image with the edition 46/85 also in pencil. Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image is good and the sheet fair, with toning to the reverse, some staining to the lower edge and handling marks condusive with age.
