Description: JABO ET Crystal MarbleCollector SeriesBi-Modal Radioactive Wirepull MINT Run Date: 3/13/11 This JABO ET Crystal marble run has to be one of my all time favorite runs from Dave McCullough. Only a Plant Manager at JABO can produce a run of machine made marbles of this killer quality. Google "ET Crystals" to see the a wonderful group photo. Dave made these with Elaine Tucker and her daughter. Made in Reno OH on March 13, 2011. Dave just kept killin' it...run after run after run...and this is one of his very best! This, in my opinion, is one of the best crystal runs from JABO since the 2008 Contract Runs started. This particular marble has some very beautiful UV reactive glass and glows brightly when exposed to a blacklight flashlight. There are two distinct UV reactive glasses used in this marble...one glows pink (selenium) and one glows green (cadmium). This is why we refer to this type of marble as "Bi-modal" or having two modes of UV reaction. Here's something pretty cool that you can do to entertain yourself on those rainy days...if you shine a blacklight flashlight (easy to find on Amazon) onto this marble, then you will see the bright glow of the glass as shown in the last few photos. This type of glass is called Fluorescent. FYI...Fluorescence is the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation. It is a form of luminescence. In most cases, the emitted light has a longer wavelength, and therefore a lower photon energy, than the absorbed radiation...in case you are curious... :-) So, since we have a glower, we can use assign the "radioactive" description, albeit an informal nomenclature adopted loosely. Please don't worry about any dangerous radiation...no gamma rays involved! :-) I'm calling this style marble Wirepull due to the thin swirls of internal glass. Wirepull marbles are a type of art glass marble that some consider to be miniature works of art. Another Google search will give you some nice wirepull examples from different marble makers. The busy random pattern makes for an interesting study of how machine made marbles can resemble handmade marbles. The nice thin wirepull colors of glass used in this marble include lemon, navy and oxblood. I try my best to take high resolution pictures with flash to show exactly what you are getting. I use a Canon Rebel DSLR camera with built-in flash to show all the fine details of the marble. I try to rotate the marble to give multiple views. This marble was manufactured using the 3/4" machine and the size of this particular marble is 0.706" in diameter measured with electronic calipers. DAVE McCULLOUGH WAS THE VICE PRESIDENT OF JABO, INC., AND WAS THE COLOR ARTIST FOR MOST OF THE JABO CLASSICS AND THE JABO SPECIAL RUN MARBLES.
