Henry Ford (July 30, 1863), was an American industrialist, and the founder of the Ford Motor Company, that adopted the development of the assembly line technique for mass production. His introduction of the Model-T automobile revolutionized transportation and American industry. As owner of the Ford Motor Company, he became one of the richest and best-known people in the world. His intense commitment to systematically lowering costs resulted in many technical and business innovations, including a franchise system that put dealerships throughout most of North America and in major cities on six continents. Ford had worked as an engineer for inventor Thomas Edison from 1891 to 1898, after which he continued a friendship with the inventor, who encouraged Ford to proceed with his plans for an automobile. Ford met Harvey Firestone, then the agent of a buggy company, in 1895, and was impressed even then by Firestone's advocacy of rubber tires. The Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., founded in 1900, would become a principal supplier to Ford. These three titans of business would go on to be lifelong friends each of their names living on to this day.
