Description: Greece: Medals for the 1st & 2nd Balkan Wars with 6 Very Rare Naval Bars 1912-1913, with the original award document to Greek sailor Nicholas Andreau of Piraeus. The 1st Balkan war medal has all five bars issued for naval engagements in that conflict (from top to bottom): Cios-Lesbos, Navmachia-Lemnos, Navmachia-Ellis, Ellispontos and Aegean-Ionia. The 2nd Balkan war medal has the only naval bar issued for that conflict: Macedonia-Thrace. All Greek naval engagement bars are rare (see rarity chart made by the Greek medal expert, Dr. Panos Tazedakis). A Greek Balkan war pair with bars for all naval engagements, with the original award document, is extremely rare. The medals and bars are in extremely fine condition, with the original ribbons. The award document is brown with age, but nearly intact: there are two small holes on the bottom margin of the document, and a small hole on the upper left hand margin. Both medals were clearly mounted on the upper left and upper right corners of the document; there is slight surface damage in both upper corners where the medals were once attached; the medals and document were doubtless framed under glass for many years. This is a museum quality pair of Balkan War medals. A photocopy of the English monograph by Dr. Tazedakis, The Military Medals of the Balkan Wars, is included. Authenticity guaranteed; 14-day return privilege (30 days overseas), excluding postage, provided item is returned in same condition when sold. Item will be shipped USPS Priority Mail; will combine postage for multiple purchases.
