Description: Elba Alvarez Signed Abstract Expressionist Action Painting on Canvas 1986 Elba Alvarez Signed Abstract Expressionist Action Painting on Canvas 1986 Click image to enlarge Description Elba Alvarez, abstract expressionist action painting, acrylic on canvas, signed and dated 1986 in the lower right, in very good condition as the corners and edges are lightly damaged from being once framed. It is now unframed. On the back of the painting is a label indicating this is an original Alvarez painting, an original price of $1,600 in pencil above the label, an inventory number "MIS-1824" written in ink on the bottom bar of the wood stretcher, the painting size 30x40 written in pencil on both the right and left side of the canvas, and the number 26 written in ink on the top bar of the wood stretcher, which could be the number of the painting that was part of an exhibition of the artist's work. As was typical of her work, the artist used airbrush spray painting to create the curvilinear elements and also added marble dust, fine sand, or a similar substance to the paint to add texture to the work. Small dots can be seen in the paint in the close up photo I have attached. Elba Alvarez (1944-2005) was born in Venezuela. She trained in Paris and moved to the United States in 1968, bringing with her the ideas and visions that fill her cool yet colorful canvases. She was represented by Robert Aaron Young and Center Art Galleries and had major shows worldwide including being shown at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. She was noted for design, texture, and color, all of which are important elements of this painting.
