Description: The item for sale is a monotype print that was created by the Philadelphia area artist Edna Gass around the middle of the twentieth century. The artist is sometime associated with the New Hope School of Pennsylvania artists in Bucks County. Her method of creating art was unique. The image was painted on a polished plate and then pressed against a sheet of paper and transferred. Each work is a one of a kind hybrid of a painting and print. This process also provides an interesting texture to the color areas. The painting is titled in pencil "Le Bois" or the woods. The subject is a bit abstract but there are some distinct trees and a figure near the center of the work. Edna Gass produced a number of works like this. She is a widely collected Pennsylvania artist. The paper shows some toning from age particularly on the edges next to the mat. The framing materials are probably not archival. There are no spots nor stains on the artwork. The print has not been examined outside of the frame. There is some minor moisture staining to the bottom edge of the mat as shown in photograph 5. There is some loss of silver finish on the front edges of the frame. The mate window size is 10" x 13". The total framed size is 20 1/2" x 23 1/2".
