Description: Della A. Bittner (1881-1970) Untitled (Allentown Street)Oil on Boardcirca 1930s to 1940s14" x 18"Signed Lower RightFrame Size: 19-1/2" x 23-1/2" An absolutely beautiful painting of row houses in Allentown by this artist who studied with Walter Emerson Baum and who was instrumental in establishing a thriving arts community in her hometown of Palmerton, Pennsylvania, during the 1930s and 1940s through her association with "The Palmerton Group" of female artists who studied and exhibited with Baum. (See bio below for more information on "The Palmerton Group" and the last picture for a photo of Bittner with the "Group.") Bittner used bold brush strokes and heavy impasto throughout this painting, which definitely shows Baum's influence. This is without doubt the best Bittner painting we have seen or have had the privilege of owning. The painting is in very good condition with no apparent defects and his housed in wide wood frame that has a few abrasions but is also in very good condition.
