A masterpiece produced by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1945, the Pennsylvania Railroad T1 6110 was one of the initial prototypes of the T1 class. The 122 foot train (locomotive & tender) could haul heavy freight loads and fast passenger service across the Pennsylvania Railroad's lines. With a streamlined shark nose design by Raymond Loewy, and a strange 4-4-4-4 wheel arrangement, the T1 became an icon of the end of the American steam era. Suffering from wheel slip and the cost of maintenance, the Pennsylvania Railroad T1s were replaced by new diesel locomotives, and eventually all T1s were scrapped leaving no examples left in preservation. Without any full scale T1s left in existence, all that is left of the masterpiece are models such as my 6 stud wide model. Even though I primarily build Reading Railroad locomotives I have always been fascinated by the interesting shark nose streamlining and the 4-4-4-4 drive train. That motivated me to make a Pennsylvania Railroad T1 once I felt I could successfully capture the design. My design consists of an extremely durable locomotive and tender with 1373 pieces that can be adjusted for display and function. The"display" setting allows the T1 model to have a thorough amount of details around the wheels and realistic spacing, while the "function"setting alters the wheel layout and removes details to allow the locomotive to handle LEGO switches and turns. The "function" instructions show the accommodations that have to be made to the model for proper running. The tender is able to be motorized with LEGO 9V, Power Functions, or Powered Up systems.
