Copy this link into your browser: Here we have many used caps (pronounced chop) that were used in Java in the production of Artisan Batiks. The cap is dipped into molten wax and stamped onto the cloth. The worker must align the edges of each consecutive cap creating a pattern that will run the length of the fabric. These caps are hand crafted from thin copper strips that are hand cut, shaped, and soldered into these intricate patterns. Each cap takes about 2 weeks to make. Each of these pieces is unique and a true work of art. Please remember that these were used to actually make batik fabric and there will be some signs of use adding to the character of the cap.
