Description: Wartime Postal Savings Stamps of 1943Starting in February 1943, twelve provinces issued postal savings stamps as a way to encourage savings and induce people to purchase three year government bonds known as Thrift Movement Bonds. The smallest denomination of bond was $5.00. Stamps were not only issued by post offices but also distributed to large companies for them to sell to people with whom they did business, to sellers of luxury goods, such as liquor and tobacco products, and to restaurants and cafes for them to sell to their customers. When a patron paid a bill the stamps might be given as change. The values of the new stamps ranged from 50¢ to $5.00. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
