Description: Dickens’ Complete Works, by Charles Dickens.11 Unnumbered Hardcover Volumes present: set appears to be nearly complete example of the Tho. Crowell 15-volume set (see below). All volumes Illustrated. ca. 1890. New York: Thomas Y. Crowell & Co. Hardcover. 12mo. Hardcover, Brown cloth, no jackets (as issued): Gilt Top-Edge & Gilt titles to spine, gilt embossed bust of Dickens to upper-right of front covers.No copyright date, but set appears to be circa 1890-1915. Illustrated with dozens of etched & engraved b&w plates, including illustrations original to the works, plus many additional by various artists. Condition is GOOD+. Bindings are sound and square, though appear fragile with age and some volumes evince varying stages of separation at gutters of front and/or back endpapers; no leaves loose or laid in, however. Covers are clean and straight, all titles complete and legible in good condition or better, with only moderate wear to exteriors overall. Signs of wear / handling most pronounced at crown and tail of spines, with some slight shelf wear evident and some moderately-bumped corners. Interiors are clean, unmarked, and appear complete and in excellent condition; leaves are brittle and some evince very small closed tears to fore-edge from handling, but this is uncommon among the set. Overall, a Good or better collectible antiquarian set including the preponderance of Dickens’ works, missing only a few titles.
