Description: Edwardian Belle Époque hairs-comb designed by Cartier. This is one of the most magnificent, jeweled hairs combs we have ever seen. This is a museum piece created during the Edwardian / Belle Époque periods in Paris France by the jewelry house of Cartier, back in the 1900. The fabulous hairs-comb has been designed with elegant French neoclassic patterns in the style of Louis XVI. Exceptionally crafted with solid yellow gold of 18 karats topped with platinum for the settings of the diamonds and carved tortoiseshell comb. The upper part is accented with one hundred sixty-one rose cuts diamonds and embellished with a delicate engine turned guilloché design topped with translucent blue and opaque white, glass enamels. This magnificent and very important piece rivals the works by Kark Faberge made in Russia during the same period.Materials: 18Kt yellow gold, platinum, diamonds, enamel and carved comb.Diamonds: Mounted in millegrain settings, with 161 calibrated old European rose cuts diamonds, 1.22 carats, white colorless F color, VS/SI clarity.Measures: 106 mm by 92 mm (4.08 x 3.60 Inches).Weight: 45.80 Grams, (29.46 Dwt).Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks the maker's mark inside a lozenge cartouche, the mark of the eagle for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold, the four digits serial numbers and signed, "(CARTIER) 1547".Cartier in ParisIn 1899, following the impetus of Louis, the eldest of the three Cartier brothers, the Maison moved to 13 rue de la Paix, in the heart of Parisian high society. It is here, behind this majestic black marble façade, that the most beautiful pages of Cartier's creative adventure were written. The history of this legendary address, which began at the dawn of the 20th century, is inseparable from the invention of modernity and its perpetual movement. The Edwardian eraLike the Georgian and Victorian eras before it, derives its name from the reign of the English King, Edward VII (1901-1910). Edwardian jewelry is known for representing femininity while incorporating a lot of the color white. Think diamonds, pearls and white metals like platinum and white gold. Diamonds often had an Old Mine or European cut and sapphires were a popular choice for a pop of color. They tended to be made from platinum and diamonds – the more, the merrier – and used fashionable, intricate techniques such as filigree and millegrain. Edwardian rings are works of art and best worn alone or alongside a simple wedding band. Mille-graining, a new decorative technique made possible by the use of platinum, is featured often on Edwardian jewelry. Its border of delicate balls and ridges surrounding a gemstone or on the knife sharp edges of a design served to give jewelry a softer, lighter look.Guilloché This technique is used in fine jewelry to enhance the appearance of brooches, rings and pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue.Millegrain This is a jewelry technique which refers to the textural effect of a close-set line of metal beads that are typically used as a border on the edges or bezels of jewelry.Literature: Olivier Bachet & Alain Cartier, Cartier Exceptional objects, Palais Royal 2021, Volume 1 and 2, for similar pieces Illustrated.Provenance: Purchased in Cartier Paris, 13 Rue De la Paix, a private collection in London England, acquired in New York city.Collateral: This hair comb is accompanied by the original designer's antique fitted presentation jewelry curved box.Condition: The overall condition of this hairs comb is magnificent.
