Found at low tide on the reef flat, Kwajalein Island, the Marshall Islands, 1967. . I remember an unusual fact about the shell distribution on the reef flat that stretched from Kwajalein to the neighboring islands---three main types of cowries were found in the millions of shallow holes, monetas, gold-ringers, and snakeheads. But the unusual fact I was thinking of was, at one section of the reef close to Kwaj, you found monetas, and monetas only, a little further down the reef you found gold-ringers, and gold-ringers only, and as you got closer to Little Buster Island, the next island up from Kwaj, you began to find snakeheads, (called brownies there at the time) and that's right, you found snakeheads only at that part of the reef. And when you consider that those colonies have been living on that reef like that for thousands of years, it does raise the question of, why are they still separate colonies after all this time?. Just the sort of question that keeps one awake at night.... Anyhow, as the video shows, this hyper-margined beauty, that obviously could be called the flying-saucer cowrie because of the massive margins that the shell has, is a very rare, flatten-looking version of the moneta cowrie, a big, gorgeous, glossy GEM, and also is a wonderful, very rarely offered version of that beauty that will look terrific sitting on your shelf! The perfect shell for a first-class collection. As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that's why so many of the photos of shells on eBay show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest! As for feedback, as your know, sellers live and die by the feedback you leaved, (please leave fives!) so if you have a problem, just let me know! After all, I'm retired, and all messages go directly to my phone, so unless I'm out shell collecting I will get back to you pronto-like!Shell collecting!
