Description: This is an antique Spanish Colonial silver baptismal font or shell. The round and curved top piece is elaborately repoussé with a foliate design. The same repoussé foliate work continues on the raised portion at the back of the shell. The shell itself has 14 channels and a scollop engraved rim. The dish rests on three conch shaped feet. The shell measures 5 inches high (to the top of the back panel) by 8 3/4 inches wide by 8 inches deep (the back of the panel to the front foot). The piece weighs 12.6 troy ounces.
