Antique, 13 volume hardcover Naples Italy vellum bound over 250 years old Civil History of Naples Italy by Pietro Giannone. According to my research the work is 40 "books" long; here presented are the first 33 "books" of the work in 13 volumes, with the 13th volume ending with book XXXIII. Volumes are overall in good to very good condition showing only mild age, use and shelf wear for being mid 18th century volumes. Exteriors are overall clean with some minor handling or use soiling to the exteriors. Interiors show foxing and minor soiling here and there throughout though bindings are overall sound and tight. The back cover wraps of Volumes1 and 13 are nearly fully detached but still connected by original top or bottom binding strings only and Volume 13 has some splitting to the vellum around the title at the spine face. Back endpaper of volumes 3 shows some tatter at the upper inner margin, back endpaper of volume 4 also shows some tatter at the lower inner margin. Volume 5 has split between the title page and adjacent page at the gutter but binding remains firm. Only one in page illustration to be found throughout the set in volume 7 and volume 8 has heavy rubs to the outer edges of the vellum wrap whereas the rest of the volumes have only minor or mild rubs if at all at their exterior edges.Volumes have some pencil bracketing or occasional pencil underlining throughout the text. Some volumes also show some light and very old watermarks at outer page margins. Volumes retain their front and back endpapers. Pages remain sturdy and bright even with the foxing or minor soiling. Volumes have gold gilded and embossed title and volume text on the spine faces printed directly onto the vellum with the volume text surrounded by brown coloring, volume 8 only having title label and no darkening around the gold gilded and embossed volume text. Books overall retain their complete structural integrity besides the aforementioned above binding issues and bindings are overall tight and sound, again, besides the aforementioned. Volumes range in page count from roughly 290 to 510 pages per each volume. Entire set as if aligned on a shelf measures approximately 17 1/4 x 4 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches and weigh together about 10 1/4 pounds.
