Description: The silk tree is a broad-crowned, medium-sized deciduous tree with mimosa-like leaves. A fast-growing tree that loves the sun and can bloom several times a year. The flowers, the real treasure of this tree, are pink, in the shape of a flower, it has a uniform and regular flowering. It blooms from May to July. The fragrant flowers appear to be clusters of silky pink threads. Very dark green foliage that will close at night. Medium growth (8-10 m), spreading branches forming an umbrella.Seed GerminationSeeds can be sown indoors at any time of yearSoak seeds in hot (not boiling) water for 24 hoursSeeds should have swollen to around 3 times their previous size. Any seeds which have not swollen can be scarified (scratched with a metal nail file or similar) then soaked for a few hours in cold water. Sow the seeds 8-10mm deep in a well-draining compost mix - ideally 50/50 sieved compost and vermiculite. The first seeds should germinate in 10-20 days but the stragglers can take up to 8 weeks.Once large enough to prick out, transfer to individual deep pots or root trainers as this tree has a deep tap root.Harden off in early spring and plant out after all danger of frost has passed.Prefers a free-draining soil in full sun.
