Description: Offered here is " A Quaker Grandmother: Hannah Whitall Smith " by Ray Strachey, in a presumed first edition published by Fleming H. Revell Company in 1914. This edition features the correspondence of a 19th-century Quaker grandmother, with a number of illustrations. This hardcover book is in Very Good condition. The grey boards have gilt titles to the cover and spine. The boards show light shelf wear, with multiple small stains on the front board; the back board has a half-inch stain, plus a faint 2.5-inch stain along the bottom edge. The spine is sun-faded, with bumping and fading of material at the head and tail. There is a small white circular sticker (approx. 1/4-inch) on the spine. The corners show minor bumping, as well as edge wear, resulting in loss of material (max 1/2-inch). The edges have wear. The top edge has a 1/3-inch x 3-mm chip/tear. The bottom and fore edge book blocks are deckled, sun-tanned and clean. The top block is gilt and is faded with some scratches and rubbing. The paste-downs, free endpapers and first few pages are age-tanned particularly around the edges, and have some marks. There is a 2.5-inch stain on the bottom edge of the rear paste-down. All other pages are clean and unmarked. The front hinge is a bit loose, but holding well. This book is enclosed in a mylar sleeve fastened with four pieces of tape; there is a white rectangular sticker on the back of the sleeve.
