About this stamp sheet - The US Postal Service issued this commemorative sheet in 2005 in Los Angeles, California for the upcoming Chinese New Year. This sheet of 37c self-adhesive stamps featured all 12 Chinese Zodiac symbols for the previous 12 years. Why a 2-sided sheet? Because of the Chinese superstition concerning the number 4. Four is unlucky in many Asian cultures. The 12 stamps on one side at 37c each had a face value of $4.44 - very bad luck indeed. The USPS rushed to make a two-sided pane with face value of $8.88. A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. This stamp sheet has been designated as Scott Number 3895.
