This is a first UK edition first printing published by T. Fisher Unwin in 1919. This book presents very well but has a few issues. The binding is square and tight and immaculate throughout. The green cloth boards are somewhat soiled yet the gold gilt lettering is still quite beautiful and though the spine has darkened over time remains completely legible as shown. The hinge on the upper front board had at one time begun to separate and a previous owner’s solution was to re-attach it using some sort of glue. The repair job is strong yet a tad unsightly particularly from the inner board side. That being said this copy is probably not for the serious collector but for someone who loves Conrad and wants an early title in a UK first. The original green topstain is still quite evident on the upper page block as shown. There is a previous owner’s name on the inner front board and the last photo shows wear to the lower corners.
