Description: This listing is for an academic drawing of a seated male nude with skillful modeling of light and shadow on form. The work comes from the French school and was executed in black and white chalk on heavy paper around 1840. This piece only just predates the photorealism that would come to dominate academic art by the mid-19th century. Drawing measures approximately 9-1/4"w x 13-1/4"h. It is in overall good condition with scattered dirt and surface imperfections. The sheet has been trimmed and there are two vertical creases along the left margin from folding long ago. Note two approx. 1-1/4" tears at top and bottom of creased section, with old repairs on back, and pinholes along top and bottom edges. The bottom left corner is bumped and has a small crease. See images to verify condition and feel free to ask questions. Terms of SalePlease allow (4) business days after the auction ends for processing and shipment. Condition, Shipping, and ReturnsFlaws, manufacturing defects, or damages—if applicable—are noted in the description above to the best of my ability. Returns are not accepted.
