Description: We have recently acquired a large group of beautiful Washington State game used football jerseys from the mid to late 1990s. The one available in this auction is the white #12 shirt, which was first worn by punter Jeff Banks circa 1996/97, then issued to quarterback Paul Mencke. The jersey shows nice, even game use throughout and has no rips, holes or tears. Manufactured by Russell, it is tagged as a size 44. It measures approx. 25 inches across from pit to pit (shoulder pad cut), then tapers to approx. 20 inches across at the stomach area. The length is approx. 32 inches from top of shoulder to bottom of tail. The shirt has spandex sides. Evidence of the original BANKS nameplate remains, thanks to the presence of original threads and tracks visible on the inside of the shirt. As shown in the photos, the MENCKE nameplate remains firmly sewn to the jersey. Punter Jeff Banks was a good one during his two years with the Cougars... In 1996 he had 63 punts for 2.565 yards, a nice 40.7 average. Even better in 1997, Banks booted 56 punts for 2,431 yards for an impressive 43.4 average. He is currently the Special Teams Coach at Alabama. Quarterback Paul Mencke played four seasons with the Cougars, playing his final season in 2000 as a wide receiver. Often sitting on the bench because of the likes of Ryan Leaf and Steve Birnbaum, Mencke did manage to complete 88 passes for 1,290 yards and 11 touchdowns during his three years as a quarterback. Washington State used three versions of the white jersey during this time... A nylon mesh warm-weather, a solid nylon cool-weather (the featured jersey is this one), and a heavier solid nylon cold-weather with built in hand warmers. The amount of wear shown on this jersey is consistent with it being worn a couple of games per year. I'm not sure if you'll ever find another one of these, and this would surely be a welcome addition to ANY Washington State collection!
