Description: This is for an original program from the July 3 1955 doubleheader played by the Sioux City Soos and Lincoln Chiefs in a Class A Western League contest which was held at Soos Park in Sioux City Iowa. The original owner wrote on the cover in what I believe is a blue fountain pen “Went to the game on my vacation Sunday July 3 1955”. At the top of the “official scorebook supplement” the original owner wrote with the same pen “First game Sioux City beat Lincoln 11-5, Second game Lincoln beat Sioux City 4-0”. Even though Lincoln would finish 2 games behind the Soos in last place, the Soos would come in last in both runs per game with 4.72 and ERA with 5.32. Its tough to make the long trek from the minors to the Majors, but two of the best known would appear in the iconic 1966 Topps set. A 19 year old Joe Christopher at the time of this game had already graduated to the Williamsport Grays and by the end of the year would be playing for the Phoenix Stars. The Soos Willie Kirkland would also be known for that gorgeous green Washington Senators card from the 1966 set. If anyone remembers opening a pack of 66 Topps back in the day, Willie Kirkland and Joe Christopher were two of the most well known images in your stack of doubles. Of all of the players, the Chiefs Dick Hall would go on to have one of the better major league careers. Soon after this game, Hall would be called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates where he would enjoy a 16 year career as both a middle and long reliever, including winning two World Championships with the Baltimore Orioles and being named to the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame. In 5 postseason games, Hall would register 2 wins and 2 saves giving up only 3 hits with an E.R.A. of 0.00. A really tough to find program with the tougher to find insert included.
