1955 Schwinn Jaguar 26” Boys Balloon Tire 3 Spd, Original Survivor, 2 Year Only!

Description: Up for sale is a 1955 Schwinn “Jaguar” boys bicycle in original, survivor condition. It has quite a few nice options like a 3 speed, chrome fenders, Delta light, truss rods, deluxe chain guard, seat crash rail, bow pedals, etc. The bike was long forgotten in a garage until it recently was brought back from near death and the condition seen in the pictures. Its original state can be seen in the last 3 photographs. The entire bike was broken down to loose parts and detail cleaned to its current state. There is some surface rust that’s coming through the original paint but for the most part, it cleaned up. All of the chrome was scrubbed with wax and brass wool to remove stuck on surface rust. Some fine pits/marks remain but they look much better. I also rolled out the fenders with a fender roller and replaced the broken fender braces with another set of used braces from another Schwinn bicycle. The original Delta fender light and grips were damaged beyond repair so bother were replaced with top quality reproductions. Both sets of caliper brakes were cleaned, lubed and polished to look like new. I also replaced the rock hard pads with correct replacements. The black wall tires were rotten so those were also replaced with some whitewalls to mimic the correct color scheme seen in the 1955 Schwinn bike catalog. All bearings were cleaned, soaked and repacked except for the 3 speed hub. That was oiled through the fill hole on the outside. I believe the chain is original and it too was soaked/cleaned and oiled before reassembly. The 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub is in good shape but the shifter needs some adjustment. The bike doesn’t shift as smoothly as I would like but it does shift. I think it’s a sticky cable. At the time of service i was under a deadline and didn’t have time to repair it before the 4th of July. It sports a manufacturer date of 3-55 which is consistent with the bikes serial number April of ‘55.
