Description: This beautiful vintage 5” HANSON WOOD PLUG is a survivor from the 40s-50s. The Basswood construction. the glass eyes and the bright colors make for a great display of fishing gear from 60 years or so ago. The plug is mounted on a beautiful very old slab of bark taken off the beach of Whidbey island. It’s shaped like a whale. The HANSON LURE CO. was started in Michigan in 1908. They have a long history in the evolution of fishing lures. This vintage 5” HANSON WOOD PLUG with GLASS EYES is an oldie. This style of plug is, and was, popular off the shores of Whidbey Island, located in Puget sound, 30 miles north of Seattle. It’s trolled deep (200’) with a 10 pound lead ball, which is attached to a thin steel cable. When the fish takes the bait (plug), the fish snaps the lure out of the clutches of the weight and the fisher person has the time of their life playing the salmon to the edge of the boat. I want to caution that the hooks on these lures are sharp and dangerous! You want to keep it out of reach from children and pets. This might make a nice gift for that special person in your life that seems to have just about everything!
