Description: 1900 William Jennings Bryan Presidential Campaign Political Pin Pinback ButtonSepia celluloid pin “Wm J. Bryan” has him running in 1896, 1900, and 1908 for president as a Democrat. Pin measures approximately 2 1/4” in diameter. A perfectly smooth 1/8" light spot at 9 o'clock, don't know what caused it. Also, a 1/4" spot of something stuck to pin at 2 o'clock, it is raised but won't come off with light scraping. With the right stuff it might come off, but it might not, too. The celluloid pin has a great picture of Bryan on the front and unfortunately, some rust on the back. Always see pictures. Per Internet: William Jennings Bryan (March 19, 1860 – July 26, 1925) was an American orator and politician from Lincoln, Nebraska, NE. Beginning in 1896, he emerged as a dominant force in the Democratic Party, standing three times as the party's nominee for President of the United States. He also served in the United States House of Representatives and as the United States Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson. Because of his faith in the wisdom of the common people, he was often called "The Great Commoner". Bryan, the Nebraska Congressman famous for his oratory, was a different breed of politician. His candidacy for the presidency in 1896 shook the establishment, including that of his own party. His zealous advocacy of free silver and agrarian populism won him the title, "The Great Commoner" - and the enmity of old school Republicans and Democrats alike. Despite an unprecedented national campaign tour, during which he delivered thousands of speeches, the "whistle stop" speech originated with Bryan, the silver-tongued orator lost to Ohio Republican William McKinley.
