1891 ARGENTINE BAYONET Scabbard modified for M 1 Carbine wood grips

Description: About the Argentine short modified bayonet for the US M1 Carbine:According to Bayonetas de la Republica Argentina by Mario Suffriti and Oscar Albino (book picture for reference only), the existence of these bayonets are acknowledged, but the authors state that they have not been able to gather any information as to who made this modification. It is also documented in the book "The Military Knife & Bayonet" by Brett Homer. (book pictures as reference only).These bayonets started out as Argentine Model 1891 bayonets with aluminum alloy grips. At first glance it appears that the hook quillon was removed from the crossguard and the blades shortened. Upon further examination it was determined that an entirely new crossguard has been installed and it is set approximately 6 mm further down the blade (toward the tip) than the original crossguard. Also notice that the ring is now a low muzzle ring being close to the blade. A notch has been milled in the back of the pommel to allow the latch to mate with the M1 Carbine bayonet lug. They bear a non Argentine serial number on the ricasso. The scabbard has also been painted white and shortened modified to fit the bayonet.This particular bayonet listed here is extremely hard to find as it is a variant of the regular modification. This bayonet has wooden grips instead of the more commonly found aluminum alloy grips; the blade is parkerized and the scabbard retains the original blue instead of being painted.Bayonet blade has a beautiful parkerized finish with little loss of finish, imperfections scratches, and handling marks. Short cross guard with low muzzle ring and grayish-brown patina. The muzzle ring has a split.The wooden scales are in great shape; they have no cracks, but imperfections, tiny bruises, scratches, handling marks. The rivets are tight. The pommel has gray-brown patina, few scattered nicks, scratches, handling marks and it has been cut modified to fit the M1 Carbine. The scabbard has the original bluing, it has imperfections, loss of finish thinning with grayish patina, a couple of dents, scratches, handling marks; it retains the 2 side throat screws. The scabbard also has a SN starting with an "S" meaning that it was designated to Peru; it fits the bayonet nice and thigh as it should be.
